PLOT

Stu Miley is the creator of a soon to be famous comic strip, Monkeybone. Right after learning that the Comedy Channel is going to pick up 6 episodes, Stu gets into a car accident and falls into a coma before he gets the chance to propose to his girlfriend, Julie (Bridget Fonda). While his body lies in a hospital bed, Stu's mind takes a visit to DownTown, the world of nightmares. He meets his alterego, Monkeybone himself, who's sole form of entertainment seems to be making fun of his "boss". Stu finds out his sister insists on pulling the plug, and he finds a way to cheat death. Only Monkeybone steals his chance and takes over Stu's body in the real world. It's up to Stu to get his body back before it's too late..

MY REVIEW

This is the type of movie Hollywood simply doesn't make. It's just too cool. The sets are tremendous - very cool and elaborate with a spooky nightmarish quality. There's a Freudian depth to the story that you don't realize until later. Brendan gets to showcase his chameleon qualities once more as Stu, both as the real Stu and the Monkeybone possessed version. The dream sequences are great - really freaky and hilarious at the same time. This movie is a love-or-hate one, but shows every indication of being a cult classic in the future. I loved it.
